Father used to be a heavy smoker. He always smoked when he waswatching TV,reading newspapers and so on. Mother and I had advised him to quit smoking many times. Though he knew smoking was harmful to health,he still said that smoke could make his head sober when he was sleepy. This lasted for a long time until one thing happening today changed his mind.
Today, when we were having supper,a loud cry from our neigh-bour's house reached us. We didn't know what had happened,so father decided to go to the neighbour's room to have a look. After a while,he came back and told us in an upset voice, "Mr. Wang died several minu-tes ago, "“Why? "Mother asked. Father didn't answer but picked out all of his cigarettes and threw them away. Later on,we knew Mr. Wang died from over-smoking. This evening, Father promised to us, "I will never smoke again. "

Tt is known to us that the exam is the main method to measure the students'knowledge in school. But nowadays this method is almost be-coming the only way to judge the students'ability and knowledge.
If this method is over-used,I believe it will do us more harm than good. For one thing, too many exams keep the students from reading widely, because the students are forced to prepare the lessons to be examed.Their knowledge can only be narrowed within few text-books taught in class. For another, the exam itself encourages rigid memoriza-tion instead of initiating the students'creativtiy and individual thinking which will be of great importance in their future work.
So we can conclude that too many exams are not good to the stu-dents.Some measures should be taken to lessen the students'burden.Remember the main purpose of the exam is to urge and encourage the students to learn more.
What is success? Different people hold different views on This question. Some think that one is successful if he can make a great deal of money. Others argue that success means holding an important government post. Still others believe that whoever has got high academic title is successful. It is clear that there are quite different opinions on success.
In order to become successful, you should first of all be both perseverance and hardworking. As you know, whatever you do, there are always two possible results: success and failure. When you fail, you should never lose heart. On the contrary, you must build up your confidence and work even harder. You should always keep in mind that perseverance is the mother of success and industry is the key to it. In addition, you should pay great attention to your work method. It is necessary for you to sum up your experience constantly and improve the efficiency of your work. Finally, it is important for you to get along well with your co-workers, care for each other and help each other. If you follow these principles, you will certainly achieve remarkable success in the future.
In my opinion, success means achieving brilliant results in one's work, that is, making outstandingcontributions to the development of the country and bringing happiness to the people. So my conclusion is that even if one has made great progress in what he does, I don’t think there’s any reasons for him to be conceited.
